WordPress 4.9.4 has had a maintenance release that fixed a few significant bugs. These bugs used to cause sites to fail when preforming background updates and other automation. This patch is improving the self-update feather added four years ago to WordPress. The bug would cause errors but has now been fixed. This fix will be applied to as many users WordPress automatically as possible. Some users may not receive the update automatically but everything is being done to ensure that there is no problem.
- Auto updates have been available for four years but the latest had a fault.
- The bug is being corrected with this update and will help the updates and security going forward.
- The auto update will still go through but they suggest manual until then.
“WordPress managed hosting companies who install updates automatically for their customers can install the update as normal, and we’ll be working with other hosts to ensure that as many customers of theirs who can be automatically updated to WordPress 4.9.4 can be.”
