From G Suite to Google Workspace – what you need to know

It seems like one day users went to check their email on Gmail, and there was a different icon there. A lot of them didn't think much of it other than a design upgrade from Google, but it turns out a major change did happen – G Suite turned into Google Workspace. The first phase of Google Workspace rolled out October 6th, 2020, with continuous updates since then. Over the past month we’ve gotten a lot of questions about what is going on, so we are going to share all of the answers we’re giving out, plus a free PDF tutorial on what you may have to do at some point (not all accounts will have to do this).

The most common question we've gotten: What is Google Workplace and is it the same as G Suite? The answer: yes – Google Workspace is what was previously known as G Suite. The only change is new the features.

What are the new Google Workspace features? Similar to G Suite, all Google Workspace plans provide a custom email for your business and includes collaboration tools like Gmail, Calendar, Meet, Chat, Drive, Docs, Sheets, Slides, Forms, Sites, and more.

So, here are the new changes that we have noted thus far:

Google Workspace is now fully cloud-based, with no installation needed. Meaning? You can work from wherever, whenever. A perfect feature for this time! We even heard that you are able to work even when you’re offline! You'll just need to be sure to select that option in your Google doc under ‘File… Make available offline.'

There are now advanced security and admin features. You can track time more easily, share docs with your team (and beyond), you can conduct data protection insight reports, plus so much more. There are many ad-on options available depending on the plan you have.

Google has really been focusing on upgrading their support. You can now have 24/7 access to support and a lot more management of your account is happening, so you can focus on conducting your business.

Do I have to do anything to upgrade from G Suite to Google Workspace? No! Google automatically updates. If you want additional ad-ons, that’s the only thing you will have to do yourself.

It’s important to remember that Google Workspace is evolving because it’s only in the beginning phases of rolling out. We encourage you to not only keep up with the updates as they're happening, but to also spend 10-30 minutes a day getting
to know Google Workspace.
